The positive performance of the construction industry boosted fixed investment in Mexico to an all-time high in May, rising 17.4 percent year-over-year, according to SteelOrbis' analysis of data from national statistics office Inegi.

The index that measures fixed investment (gross fixed investment of capital) was 116.8 points in may, displacing the previous all-time high of 115.3 points in November 2016.

According to the Monex brokerage house, the investment was driven by investment in the railway infrastructure construction industry in the states of Quintana Roo and Campeche and electrical infrastructure works in the states of Mexico, Querétaro and Nuevo León.

Investment as a percentage of GDP, in 2022 represented 19.0 percent, according to Inegi. Data from the World Bank, in a classification by country, places Mexico in position # 73 in that same indicator.
